Brilliant Bachasson bids to take Red Mills Chase and career win number 15

Bachasson is what you would call the ultimate club man in Ireland. Had he been a GAA player, he’d be a rock-solid wing forward who would be just as effective in the backs. He’d almost certainly put his hand up for a job at the AGM and he’d probably coach one of the underage teams as well.

There is not much Bachasson cannot do. He may not be top class but he is well capable at his own level.

The versatile Willie Mullins-trained ten-year-old will bid to make it five wins on the spin and a 15th all told in the feature Red Mills Chase.

All bar two of those wins have been achieved in the jersey of the O’Connell family, who sure do know how to pick them, given Un De Sceaux once donned the same blue and orange silks.

Be it over hurdles or fences, Bachasson is equally as effective and is proven over this course and distance. He should be hard to beat.

Mullins' other runner is Annamix, who is also proven on these terms but will need to improve to beat his stablemate.

That leaves Castlegrace Paddy as being the main danger. Pat Fahy’s ten-year-old has just 7lb to find with Bachasson but races off level weights, which may just make things difficult.

Daly Tiger and Kildorrery ran on Sunday and may not be likely runners, while Spyglass Hill needs a career-best.

Bachasson has been in great form all season and hopefully can continue his rich vein of form here. I don’t envisage the trip, ground or track being a problem, so we are hopeful of a big run. Annamix is in good form but I am worried about the ground being a bit dead for him.

He only ran on Sunday and is unlikely to run again. A few would need to come out for him to take part.
