The Coral-Eclipse, Saturday's big race, represents a transition point in the season as it's the first Group 1 when the Classic generation comes up against its elders, and we get a steer on how good the three-year-olds are.

In the last ten runnings of the race the Classic generation has won four, which gives an indication of how finely balanced the Eclipse is between the young and old, but given the way things are going, the three-year-olds colts may well hold sway this season.

Vadeni and Native Trail are first and second favourites, and the former is one of three extremely exciting middle-distance Classic colts – it's been a long time since you could say that with any degree of confidence.
