Racing League may face tough baptism given lukewarm reception

British racing, generally speaking, tends to regard new ideas with suspicion and quite often hostility, so it should come as no surprise the Racing League concept unveiled this week has received a lukewarm reception.

It probably did not help that the announcement the project was going ahead came the week before the Cheltenham Festival and with most of the racing media up to their eyebrows in preparations for the meeting.

The impression that the news was being rushed out somewhat earlier than ideal was reinforced by the lack of detail in what was announced, such as who the 12 team sponsors, the trainers and the jockeys involved are set to be.
