Bad grammer is now no suprise - so why don't we vet these awful horse names?

There are more pressing subjects that need addressing in horseracing than the names given to the horses, but I do find myself, far too often for comfort, becoming frustrated with the quality and grammar of those who make this whole sport go round.

Let's not forget there are some wonderful names given to brilliant horses – Dancing Brave, Desert Orchid, Teenoso, El Gran Senor, Dawn Run, Burrough Hill Lad to name a few. We all have our favourites for different reasons, and on many occasions names carry with them a history.

The 2011 Hennessy winner Carruthers was named after the late Lord Oaksey's butler, while three-time Champion Hurdle winner See You Then takes his name from a phrase the painter Lucian Freud was fond of uttering.
