Cox Plate favourite Russian Camelot suffered a shock odds-on defeat when runner-up to Arcadia Queen in the Group 1 Caulfield Stakes on Saturday and has been usurped at the head of the Melbourne Cup market by Tiger Moth.

The South Australian Derby winner drifted to 11-4 favourite (from 7-4) with bet365 for the Cox Plate in two weeks after his length-and-a quarter second to the Grant and Alana Williams-trained mare when sent off a 2-5 shot.

It was a second top-level victory for Arcadia Queen, who finished a two-and-a-quarter length third to Russian Camelot in the Underwood Stakes last time, and she was one of four winners on the card for jockey Willie Pike.

The Danny O'Brien-trained Russian Camelot is a best price 9-1 second favourite (from 7-1 favourite) with Betfair Sportsbook for the Melbourne Cup on November 3. Irish Derby second Tiger Moth heads the betting with several firms and is a standout 8-1 with Sky Bet.

O'Brien said: "He's been beaten by an exceptional performance by Arcadia Queen and she's been comprehensively better than him today.

"Hopefully when we get to Moonee Valley for the Cox Plate there might be more pressure in the race and our guy might be looking for more distance now.

"Full credit to the winner. She was super and we just weren't good enough."

Hugh Bowman was set to ride Sir Dragonet in the Cox Plate but will miss the mount after picking up a ten-meeting suspension for a careless riding charge on King's Legacy in the Caulfield Guineas, won by the Pike-ridden Ole Kirk.

Jamie Kah, who will ride Prince Of Arran in the Lexus Melbourne Cup, landed the similarly-sponsored Toorak Handicap on the Phillip Stokes-trained Mr Quickie.
