'That means everything' - Ryan Curatolo shines aboard Mouheeb in UAE Guineas
Mouheeb bested a small-but-select field for the Group 3 UAE 2,000 Guineas under a beautifully timed ride from jockey Ryan Curatolo.
The $400,000 son of Flatter was narrowly denied in the Guineas trial last month but made no mistake this time for Nicholas Bachalard, running down and overtaking 2-1 shot Mashakel just before the line.
"That means everything," said Curatolo. "We almost got there last time and he's proven his class. He pulled a bit before his previous races but he was more relaxed today. It was a great performance."
Godolphin's Naval Crown was sent off at 11-4 on his dirt debut for trainer Charlie Appleby, who won this race with Gold Town in 2018, and finished third, six and three-quarter lengths behind Mashakel.
There was compensation for Appleby and William Buick as Man Of Promise trounced his 13 rivals in the 6f Dubai Sprint, a Listed handicap the trainer won with Baccarat in 2016 and 2018.
"It was a lovely performance," said Buick. "He showed more speed than I expected and travelled beautifully. He can only improve from here. He's opened a few doors for himself after that display."
In-form Dettori
Saeed bin Suroor trained the first three home in the Meydan Cup, a Listed handicap, as Dubai Future provided in-form jockey Frankie Dettori with his fifth winner of the Dubai World Cup Carnival.
