Manuel, the progressive gelding who won a handicap in October before graduating to Group 1 glory in Saturday's CF Orr Stakes at Caulfield, now has connections dreaming of one of the world's richest mile races.

Trained by Tony McEvoy, the uncle of Melbourne Cup-winning rider Kerrin, Manuel made all under Luke Currie in Australia's first top-level contest of the year, one legendary sprinter Black Caviar landed in 2012.

However, the son of Commands, who beat Kementari and Land Of Plenty, seems set to step back up in from 7f with his team eyeing the All-Star Mile, a new A$5 million prize due to take place at Flemington on March 16.

Of the 14 spots up for grabs in the field, ten will be decided by public vote with the remaining four wildcards at the discretion of Racing Victoria.

Calvin McEvoy, representing his father Tony, said: "He's a horse we've had so much time for and he's always done a few things wrong, but he ran consistently on his last prep. He came here today as an outsider, but what a ride by Luke. He got to the front and controlled the race; the horse was so strong at the line.

"He's the one we really wanted to get in the All-Star Mile from the beginning and hopefully a few people will have watched today and they might kick up for him because he's a consistent horse who deserves it."

Organisers of the All-Star Mile would love to attract record-breaking mega-mare Winx, who stretched her legs in a gallop at Randwick on Saturday morning.

Partnered by regular rider Hugh Bowman, she went five furlongs with a stablemate in advance of her bid to make it 30 wins on the spin in next Saturday's Star Apollo Stakes at the track.

Bowman tweeted: "Great to feel the unbelievable power of Winx this morning. Can't wait to let her use it next weekend! Fantastic to see many of her followers made the effort to get out of bed early to come and watch."
