According to the latest world rankings, Skalleti is the highest-rated thoroughbred in France and trainer Jerome Reynier will be more than hopeful his dual Group 1 winner can take this step up in trip in his stride.

The French handicapper actually has him at 121 – 1lb in excess of his global mark – and given a truly run race he should win if he stays.

Despite the fact he has been running at around two miles, it is not certain that Japanese challenger Deep Bond will be asked to force the pace under Cristian Demuro. His rating of 117 makes him a serious contender and while a sprint may not suit, the fact Broome made all in the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud means he should get a lead.

Many British and Irish punters will put Aidan O'Brien's three fancied trials challengers in multiples and there will have been at least one surprise on the card if the treble is not still standing by this point.

Nobody needs reminding that Frankie Dettori is deadly from the front and Broome will need to ensure that Skalleti's stamina is tested.

What they say

Kazuhoto Sumii, assistant trainer of Deep Bond
The main aim is for him to get used to the track. It might be a little bit slowly run compared to Japan. He's very laid back and it might suit him to go a bit slower and just follow the pace.

Aidan O’Brien, trainer of Broome
The plan has been to go to the Arc and he'll get to experience the track this weekend. He's always been talented and we think he's in good form.

Jean-Pierre Gauvin, trainer of Iresine
Marie Vellon felt he wasn't himself during in the Grand Prix de Vichy but he's fine now and I think this is the right race for him.

Jerome Reynier, trainer of Skalleti
The Japanese horse and Broome should ensure there is a decent pace and that should help him relax. We all think he'll stay 2,400 metres, especially on good ground. It's the perfect timing ahead of the Champion Stakes and if he stays well, it could open up races like the Dubai Sheema Classic for him.
