The Melbourne Cup is already facing a notable omission, with the news that international music superstar Taylor Swift will not be performing at the meeting.

Swift had been slated to perform two songs in the mounting yard in the lead-up to the race that stops a nation on November 5.

But any pre-race fireworks courtesy of the singer have been shelved, as it was announced on Saturday she will not be in action at Flemington.

The Victoria Racing Club released a joint statement with music and entertainment group Mushroom Events, which revealed Swift would be bypassing the Melbourne Cup due to a change of plans for her Asian promotional tour.

"Regrettably, Taylor is no longer able to make it to this year's Melbourne Cup," said Michael Gudinski from Mushroom Events.

"Changes to her Asian promo schedule have made it logistically impossible for her to be here. To all of Taylor's fans, we hope to see Taylor in Australia in 2020."

VRC chief executive Neil Wilson added: "The VRC has learned that Taylor Swift is now unable to make the trip to Australia and therefore cannot be with us on Melbourne Cup Day.

"Obviously, this is disappointing for everyone. We understand how important the pre-Cup entertainment is and we look forward to providing an update shortly."
