Champion Hurdle favourite Samcro bids to make a winning start on his much-anticipated reappearance in the Grade 2 WKD Hurdle (1.45) at Down Royal, a race won last year by Champion Hurdle runner-up Melon.

At Wetherby, the Charlie Hall meeting gets under way with two Listed contests as popular grey Guitar Pete goes for back-to-back victories in the £30,000 bet365 Handicap Chase (3.05).

And there is plenty of British interest on the first day of the Breeders' Cup, with Soldier's Call (7.21), Anthony Van Dyck (9.22) and Toast Of New York (10.43) running at Churchill Downs.
