Great deeds in two worlds a harbinger of further success for charismatic Channon

It's the World Cup this week and Royal Ascot next. Two mighty sporting planets are in conjunction, and the only man to bestride both worlds is Mick Channon, not a jack-of-all-trades but a master of the two.

It is 25 years since Channon sent out his first Royal Ascot two-year-old winner when 10-1 chance Great Deeds won the Windsor Castle Stakes, and 17 have followed since, including a pair of Group 1 triumphs with Piccolo in the 1995 King's Stand Stakes and Zafeen in the 2003 St James's Palace Stakes.

Indeed, there have been many deeds – some great – with the odd doldrum season as well. But Channon has been knocking out two-year-old winners like shelled peas this season and looks like fielding half a dozen juveniles at the royal meeting. The good times are rolling again.
