'This will be difficult' - Weld's worries over Tarnawa's wide Turf draw
Tarnawa is many people’s idea of a European Breeders’ Cup banker but Dermot Weld has expressed concern that she could have her work cut out for her from a wide draw when she vies to become the first mare to twice win the $4 million Turf.
Weld arrived in San Diego on Tuesday night and shook off the jet lag to watch his brilliant 2020 Keeneland heroine canter around Del Mar’s dirt track under a blanket of thick fog on Wednesday morning.
It was noticeably gloomier than it has been in California and the Curragh trainer’s mood was similarly downbeat after the Aga Khan-owned five-year-old was landed in stall 13 of 14 for Saturday’s 1m4f grass showpiece.
