'This one means more' - Appleby cheered by second title on arrival in America

A second champion trainers' title means more to Charlie Appleby than the first, the Godolphin trainer said on arrival here at Keeneland for the Breeders' Cup, at which he will have several well-fancied runners.

He is gratified to have retained his title despite not having an individual money-spinner and in doing so has achieved a feat last pulled off by Aidan O'Brien 20 years ago.

"No one, I'm told, since Aidan has won their first championship and then backed it up the next year," said Appleby, whose attention had been drawn to the fact by a friend.
