The Platinum Queen primed for Breeders' Cup as part of strong European party
The Platinum Queen heads to the Breeders' Cup as part of a British and Irish challenge bookmakers feel could be the strongest ever mounted, and connections have high hopes she can contribute to a record number of wins for the European raiders next week.
Five victories for British and Irish-trained horses in 2009 and 2013 remains the benchmark to beat and bookmakers are expecting that record to be challenged, with Paddy Power going 11-10 for five or more British and Irish-trained winners at the meeting, which takes place next Friday and Saturday at Keeneland in Kentucky.
Charlie Appleby saddled three winners at Del Mar last year and Paddy Power spokesman Paul Binfield said: "Charlie Appleby and Aidan O'Brien are our two main men, with the former looking to have the stronger hand. We think there will likely be four or more British and Irish trained winners."
