Nothing like a bit of Breeders' Cup razzmatazz for some US election respite

At the end of yet another neurotic US presidential election week, where else would you turn for a bit of respite other than to two days of star-spangled Breeders’ Cup hysteria.

After four years of a round-the-clock, car crash, reality TV show brought to us live from the White House, it looks as if we might be on the verge of a return to a more sane and conventional American presidency. The incumbent will clearly do everything in his power to delay the counting of chickens, just as he has sought to obstruct the actual counting of votes, but the end is nigh.

Who knows, if a Brexit deal is soon reached and a Covid-19 vaccine deployed to market, we might all congregate en masse with our families for Christmas dinner and wonder what all the fuss was about. Maybe we shouldn’t hold our breath.
