It's not all about Enable! Seven stars set to light up Longchamp on Arc weekend

With excitement building towards Enable’s attempt at a third Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe it is easy to overlook the other superstars making their way to Paris this weekend. We pick out seven others on show.

Saturday

EnbihaarQatar Prix de Royallieu

This John Gosden-trained filly has been incredibly impressive in all of her starts this season, winning four out of five this year - three of which have been at Group 2 level.

Enbihaar is one of three runners for Gosden, along with Lah Ti Dar and Anapurna, in the 1m6f Group 1 and on form looks to have the best chance of the trio.

The daughter of Redoute's Choice has size and enormous stride length on her side and has certainly been worth the wait for owner Hamdan Al Maktoum.

Dee Ex BeeQatar Prix Du Cadran

A beautiful son of Farhh who has been playing second fiddle to Stradivarius in his last three starts, but won two Group 3s at the beginning of the season and connections will see this as his chance to shine in a Group 1.

The Stradivarius camp's decision to wait for Qipco British Champions Day presents Dee Ex Bee with an opportunity to step out of his great rival's shadow, and returning to 2m4f is seen as a positive by trainer Mark Johnston, who was impressed with his run in the Ascot Gold Cup earlier this season.

Sunday

AlbignaQatar Prix Marcel Boussac

Despite disappointing in the Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes at the Curragh last time, Albigna can run a big race in this top-class two-year-old fillies' contest.

She may have disappointed, but the fact she was sent off at 9-4 for a race that has thrown up a Rockfel Stakes winner in Daahyeh and the short-priced favourite for Newmarket's big sales race on Saturday is evidence of the regard in which she is held.

Hailing from the same Niarchos family connections as top-class filly Alpha Centauri, Albigna has big boots to fill but she is already a Group 2 winner and has bags of potential.

Victor LudorumQatar Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere

Andre Fabre will be hoping to bag one for the home team in the Group 1 mile contest with this unbeaten juvenile.

Godolphin's colt won at Longchamp on debut and followed up with a convincing win in a conditions race at Chantilly on his latest start. He seems to have the perfect profile to follow in the footsteps of sire Shamardal, himself a Group 1 winner as a two-year-old.

GhaiyyathPrix De l’Arc de Triomphe

Despite the fact all eyes will be on potential history maker Enable, it is worth keeping the Charlie Appleby-trained Ghaiyyath firmly in your calculations ahead of the weekend's showpiece.

Rated only 1lb below Enable – although he has to give her 3lb on Sunday – the strapping son of Dubawi was last seen when obliterating the competition on his way to winning the Group 1 Grosser Preis von Baden.

Described by William Buick as an "absolute monster", the only other British runner in this year's Arc could push Enable all the way.

BattaashPrix de l’Abbaye de Longchamp Longines

Battaash only managed to finish fourth in this race last year, however this season he has been a revelation and now heads to Longchamp as the one they all have to beat.

Three wins in four starts were headlined by his blistering success in the Group 1 Nunthorpe last time and he lost nothing in defeat when finding only two-time Royal Ascot winner Blue Point too good in the King's Stand.

He won the 2017 edition at Chantilly by four lengths and is strongly fancied to repeat the trick here.

Mabs CrossPrix de l’Abbaye de Longchamp Longines

Battaash may not have things all his own way as lining up in opposition is Mabs Cross, who beat him fair and square when winning this last year.

She has not beaten him since and trainer Michael Dods admitted he’ll be "tough to crack", but she has been running admirably in a hot sprint company and has course form on her side. Whatever happens it will be an exceptional spectacle, but blink and you’ll miss it!
