Not to be outdone by sister Jody, who lit up day one of the Galway Festival when partnering Great White Shark to victory for Willie Mullins, Paul Townend began day two with a bang when making all on the champion trainer’s Fast Buck in the opening €50,000 novice hurdle.

Fast Buck, a fine stamp of a horse, proved he had an engine to match his looks when seeing off the well-supported Turnpike Trip.

Townend said: “We got into a nice rhythm in front and he did it nicely. He's getting his act together now and is a big, scopey horse who will jump a fence in time. He stays well and I was afraid to let it turn into a sprint.”
