Breeders' Cup Tips
Racing Post's Spotlight has picked out the best Breeders' Cup tips in a bid to help you find more winners for Saturday evening's card.
5.02 – Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint
Most tempting is Come Dancing, whose 2019 form saw her go off joint-favourite for this race at Santa Anita 12 months ago. She disappointed that day but came good again in a Saratoga Grade 2 on her latest start and, if getting back to her peak level, she'll be in with a fair shout.
5.39 – Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint
Texas Wedge, a big price in the early markets, is of most interest. Although he's struggled of late and is drawn 13, he's had excuses and in Florent Geroux he has a jockey who rides this track well, as he demonstrated when winning the only previous running of this race at Keeneland on a horse drawn 14. On that occasion Geroux was able to secure a handy spot before the turn and, in a race not loaded with early pace runners, Texas Wedge is quick enough to do the same.
6.18 – Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile
Art Collector, who should get a stalking trip, may prove strongest come the line. Although this horse was only fourth in the Preakness, that can be excused on account of an interrupted schedule and, if back to the form of his win in the 1m1f Blue Grass here, a race that has worked out well, he'll be right there.
6.57 – Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf
Plenty have claims but Terebellum looks just the type for this test, being a strong traveller with a blend of speed and stamina, and she can run to a high-class level.
7.36 – Breeders' Cup Sprint
It might be that Yaupon is simply too fast for these rivals but he's light on experience and his stablemate Echo Town is a tempting alternative. The selection is quick enough to put himself into contention early, so if he can hold his position mid-race this time – and the blinkers should help – he could be a major factor. Those two go for last year's winning barn.
8.15 – Breeders' Cup Mile
Most appealing is Ivar. He won at the top level on dirt and turf in Argentina and has quickly confirmed himself a high-class horse in the US, most recently winning a C&D Grade 1.
8.54 – Breeders' Cup Distaff
Two star runners in Swiss Skydriver and Monomoy Girl go head to head and the former is value at the forecast prices. If both run to form this will be a tremendous contest and the others will be up against it.
9.33 – Breeders' Cup Turf
A punt is taken on Mehdaayih, who looks sure to be suited by this test. She hasn't seen out her two races this year, having looked threatening in both, but they came off three-figure day absences (her best performances have come off shorter breaks) and the latest was on testing ground. An athletic filly who has scooted around similar circuits, and under a top local jockey whose style should help her relax, plus getting Lasix, she could run a big race.
10.18 – Breeders' Cup Classic
There is no standout in this year's Classic, rather several with high-class credentials, but Tom’s D'Etat (nap) can come out on top. He's the oldest horse in the field but was as good as ever when last seen in the summer. Although only third behind Improbable and By My Standards at Saratoga that day, he lost a few lengths with a bad stumble at the start, it was a steadily run race and he finished fast for third. He was put away for this race afterwards and his form figures after 60 or more days off the track read 111211.
