When the dust settles on Del Mar, history will look favourably on a Breeders' Cup Saturday that threw up a bit of everything.

Knicks Go was let loose in the Classic and Joel Rosario gladly accepted the gift. He was able to save so much ammunition along the way that he had a loaded chamber when the challengers eventually came at him. The grey obliterated them all.

In terms of a contest, it did not materialise into the unadulterated encounter we imagined it might. That is about the only thing you could crib on an intoxicating night, and Brad Cox's five-year-old still smacks of a worthy winner at a star-spangled event that lived up to its world championships billing like few of the previous 37 incarnations have.
