Who do these top trainers and jockeys rate as their best chances this weekend?
Derby day at Epsom today followed by the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown on Sunday. Ahead of a veritable feast of Flat action this weekend we asked top trainers and jockeys to identify their best chance of a winner.
I’ve good rides throughout the Sunday. Saturday at Epsom is going to be a bit more difficult but Kameko (4.55) is right in the mix for a reason so I’m keeping my fingers crossed for some luck.
Oisin Murphy, jockey
My best chance could be Yes Always in the fillies' handicap at Chelmsford (6.10). I think she's very well handicapped off 80. She was outclassed in the 1,000 Guineas last time but she's a winner on the all-weather and I'd be hopeful she'd run very well, albeit it's a trappy race.
Karl Burke, trainer
I’ve a two-year-old called Surprise Picture at Yarmouth (6.55). He has been working very well.
Hugo Palmer, trainer
My best chance is probably Lazuli (1.50) at Sandown on Sunday. He's done very well since his last start there, he goes there in great order and sprinting was always going to be his game.
Charlie Appleby, trainer
Le Don De Vie (3.15) was highly progressive last year, and ran well on his seasonal reappearance when fourth in the Duke of Edinburgh at Royal Ascot. I’m told he’s come on for that run, and the Old Newton Cup at Haydock on Sunday looks the right race for him.
Tom Marquand, jockey
On paper, my best chance of the weekend is Safe Voyage in the Surrey Stakes at Epsom (2.25). The race should be ideal for him.
John Quinn, trainer
