4.55 Epsom: Epsom Derby
After the life-changing events of this spring very few of the runners will have had a perfect preparation and some had hard races at Ascot little more than two weeks ago.
English King came through the Lingfield trial in some style and while it's not clear as to what he achieved he at least has no flakey edges to his case.
However, Mogul deserves this chance of redemption as he looked as though he could be out of the top drawer at two and his Ascot defeat behind Pyledriver, when he was not hard pressed following an unsatisfactory preparation, can be viewed tolerantly.
Mohican Heights sped past Mogul to finish just ahead in third but he looked to have a harder race, while Russian Emperor also had to get out of his comfort zone when winning at the same meeting.
The step up to 1m4f should suit the latter but Guineas winner Kameko hasn't always been amenable to restraint at 1m and, like Vatican City, is going into the blue yonder over 1m4f.
