Derby market is wrong as Kameko sets clear standard on Racing Post Ratings
He may not head the market, but Kameko sets a clear standard at the head of the Derby ratings after running to a Racing Post Rating of 121 when winning the Qipco 2,000 Guineas on his reappearance.
With an RPR of 117 from the rearranged Vertem Futurity last November, Kameko has twice performed to a higher level than any of his Investec Derby rivals. Whether he can repeat that level of form over another half mile remains to be seen and there are certainly more likely improvers, but he sets a high standard.
It's early days to be knocking the Guineas form. Its detractors will point to Wichita and Pinatubo having been beaten since in the St James's Palace Stakes, while fifth Juan Elcano could only go one place better in the Hampton Court Stakes.
