Anthony Van Dyck registers below-average Derby-winning RPR of 120
The Investec Derby held the potential for a star performer to emerge from a host of promising trial winners, but with neither stepping forward significantly the more exposed Anthony Van Dyck proved the worth of his top two-year-old form with a determined success worthy of a slightly improved Racing Post Rating of 120.
With the first five covered by less than a length it's not a Derby for big figures, but it nonetheless looks sound with Broome and Sir Dragonet replicating their trial winning figure of 117, while improvement from Madhmoon and Japan was not unexpected.
In overcoming a troubled passage, Anthony Van Dyck can be rated a little better than the bare form. Having gone into Tattenham Corner ahead of Madhmoon, Japan and Broome he found himself with ground to make on exit and then found the weakening Telecaster hampering his progress.
