'The main bet is Skalleti' - find out who else our expert panel fancy at Ascot
Francesca Cumani, Oisin Murphy and Keith Melrose feature in our Saturday team
What do you make of a fascinating Champion Stakes?
Francesca Cumani, ITV Racing presenter I think it’s an absolute belter of a race with lots of intrigue from lots of different angles. You’ve a defending champion in the shape of Magical, who I think will be hard to beat, taking on Mishriff who is an up-and-coming three-year-old with French form. As well as that you have Pyledriver dropping back in trip, last year’s second Addeybb back for more and rerouted Japan.
Keith Melrose, betting editor I can see the race going one of two ways. Either it is tactical, in which case Mishriff and Skalleti will likely come to the fore, or one horse gets a bit loose on the front. I think that could be Extra Elusive and I’ll have a small place bet on him at fancy odds, but the main bet will be Skalleti who I think is being underestimated.
Oisin Murphy, champion jockey I’m not riding in the race but if I was I would want to be on Magical. She’s been outstanding and has the form in the book, most recently when winning a strong running of the Irish Champion Stakes. Mishriff enjoys slow ground and is improving but Magical is tried and tested having won the race last year and has been an absolute star.
