The greatest sprinters of all time - from number 25 to one
25 Sheikh Albadou
Sire: Green Desert - dam: Sanctuary
Trainer: Alex Scott
In two stellar seasons with Newmarket trainer Alex Scott, he proved himself the pick of the domestic sprinters by winning the 1991 Nunthorpe and the King’s Stand and Haydock Sprint Cup the following season, but he will be remembered as the first, and still the only, European-trained horse to land the Breeders’ Cup Sprint, a feat he achieved at Churchill Downs in 1991. European sprinters weren’t supposed to be up to the task, but the 26-1 shot, under a waiting ride from Pat Eddery, swooped to beat Pleasant Tap by a remarkable three lengths. He was named European champion sprinter that season.
