Johnson looks value to peg back Skelton and claim fourth title on the bounce
You can count the champion jump jockeys in Britain since the 1980-81 season on one hand: John Francome, Peter Scudamore, Richard Dunwoody, AP McCoy and Richard Johnson, winner for the last three seasons.
But if bookmakers are right, a new rider could join this elite group, with Harry Skelton as short as 6-5 in to win the Stobart-sponsored championship with Coral, while Johnson is a best-priced 8-11 with William Hill and bet365.
Skelton is hoping it will be a case of making all. He’s raced out the blocks like a jockey on a mission, opening a lead over Johnson of 22 winners, but can he keep it up?
