'Finding the bonus race winners is the key' - Tom Segal with his ten to follow

Most punters would suggest the best way to win at betting is to think outside the box. However, when it comes to the Tote-sponsored Ten To Follow competition, trying to be too clever is usually a bad thing and concentrating on finding the bonus race winners is the key.

For that reason, Baaeed has to go in as he looks to have the Queen Anne at his mercy and it will take an extraordinarily good horse to lower his colours this season.

Coroebus and Homeless Songs pick themselves too as they look the best three-year-olds of their sex over a mile and should be big points scorers, while Nashwa went from last to first very quickly at Newbury and should, on pedigree, stay the Oaks trip.

Finding the Derby winner will be key because the winner will then go on to be a big player in several other bonus races. Desert Crown is going to be the most popular choice after his Dante win but I'm not sure he'll stay the Derby trip and I think Stone Age looked just as impressive in his trial.

Of the older horses, Adayar and Hurricane Lane look ones for the substitution period given their delayed start to the season and Bay Bridge last week put down a marker for races such as the Prince of Wales's and Eclipse Stakes. He has lots of options, especially as he should stay a mile and a half.

Trueshan, Kyprios and Stradivarius are going to be the most popular stayers but Scope has as much potential as any of them and looks certain to improve for the Gold Cup trip.

It was tempting to suggest putting in a two-year-old and Noble Style and Little Big Bear were the two I was thinking of. However, they don't get any bonus points and instead I would suggest putting in a few sprinters, who have plenty of opportunities to score points.

Highfield Princess was seriously impressive in the 1895 Duke of York and looks underestimated, while Mooneista matches up with Europe's best over 5f.

Finally, the three-year-old Ehraz looks to have Group 1 talent given how much ground he made up late at Newbury last time.
