Europe's most prestigious Flat race, the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, will be staged at Longchamp on Sunday 100 years after the first running in 1920. Some of the turf's brightest stars have etched their names on the Arc's illustrious roll of honour and we're counting down the ten greatest winners. Peintre Celebre, Allez France and Montjeu took places eight to ten, followed by Alleged and Sea The Stars in sixth and seventh. Two more great champions fill the fourth and fifth spots

5 Vaguely Noble (1968)

If Lester Piggott is right in naming Sir Ivor as the best horse he ever rode, Vaguely Noble must have been the greatest racehorse of all time.

Sir Ivor was a brilliant Derby winner in 1968 and ran up to his best in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, but Vaguely Noble beat him decisively and entirely on merit.
