It was a virtual victory for Potters Corner, for Jack Tudor, Christian Williams and Wales. For the Grand National and our National Health Service, the triumph was wonderfully real.

This was, as Nick Luck so rightly said, the race that never could be. It was the race we had to make do with, and as a way of filling the void it worked spectacularly well.

One downside to the 2020 Virtual Grand National is its presenter can never now appear on Through The Keyhole. Here he was at chez Luck, addressing the nation in front of a piano, two rather attractive lamps and looking more pixelated than any of the 40 big-race runners.
