The first foal by Coolmore’s multiple Group 1 winner Luxembourg has arrived.

Bred by Sean Gorman, the colt was born at Cleaboy Stud and Coppice Farm and is out of the unraced Martaline mare Raffles Monte, who is half-sister to French Grade 3 winner Raffles Sainte. The pair are out of Listed-winning chaser Loxlade and are from the family of French Champion Hurdle winner Valporetto.

Raffles Monte’s first foal, a colt from the first crop of Irish Derby winner Santiago, was purchased by Glenvale Stud for €46,000 at the Tattersalls Ireland November National Hunt Sale in 2023.

“[He’s the] right colour, right physical - we couldn’t be happier with him,” said Gorman.

Unbeaten in three runs as a juvenile, Luxembourg was installed as winter favourite for the Derby following his smooth victory in the Group 1 Futurity Trophy at Doncaster. He had preceded that success on Town Moor by winning the Group 2 Beresford Stakes.

At three, the son of Camelot ran a very good race to be third in the 2,000 Guineas on his reappearance, but sustained an injury which saw him miss his Epsom engagement.

However, he returned in style, winning the Group 3 Royal Whip Stakes before beating a top-class field in the Irish Champion Stakes. He ended that season with a respectable seventh in the Arc behind Alpinista.

In 2023, Luxembourg won the Tattersalls Gold Cup and finished runner-up in three other Group 1s, including by just a short head to Romantic Warrior in the Hong Kong Cup.

Luxembourg maintained his top-flight sequence by adding the 2024 edition of the Coronation Cup to his record. He retired the winner of seven of his 19 races and with more than £2.7 million in prize-money.

The stallion stood his first season at Beeches Stud at a fee of €6,000.
