Three of the final four standing in the women’s Olympic football competition came from Group G and that should fill Sweden with plenty of confidence as they aim to strike gold.

The Swedes topped the charts in the group stage with maximum points from their three fixtures, thumping tournament favourites USA 3-0 before outclassing Australia with an equally impressive 4-2 victory.

The Nordic nation renew their rivalry with the Aussies in the last four and are worthy odds-on shots to frank the form.

Sweden won the shot count 10-5 in their group-stage triumph over Australia and their 3-1 quarter-final victory over tournament hosts Japan means they are now a perfect four from four.

With 12 goals scored and only three conceded, Sweden have been the tournament's standout performers and they have great attacking depth with Real Madrid pair Sofia Jakobsson and Kosovare Asllani, Wolfsburg’s Fridolina Rolfo and Hacken’s Stina Blackstenius fighting for places.

Sweden must be wary of the threat carried by prolific Chelsea striker Samantha Kerr, who bagged a brace in last week’s meeting, but if they can keep her involvement down to a minimum, then they should readily secure their final berth.

The Aussies have won only one of their four tournament matches in regulation time, and their 4-3 win over Great Britain in the quarter-final came against the run of play in extra-time.

The other semi-final pits fierce rivals USA against Canada and while the Stars and Stripes would be expected to prevail, they haven’t shown enough to suggest rushing in at short prices.

The Americans have lost to Sweden, been held to a draw by Australia and needed penalties to see off the challenge of the Netherlands last time out. The Dutch had missed a late spot-kick in 90 minutes.
