Formula One drivers championship: latest news after the British Grand Prix
Lewis Hamilton stretches his lead after Silverstone success
Lewis Hamilton stretched his lead in the drivers championship to 39 points after victory in Sunday's British Grand Prix.
The Mercedes driver, even-money favourite at Silverstone, took advantage of a safety car outing to jump ahead of teammate Valtteri Bottas, who had started on pole.
That success made it seven victories in ten races for the British driver, who also picked up a bonus point for posting a track record time on his final lap.
Bottas had to settle for second while Ferrari's Charles Leclerc finished third after Sebastian Vettel crashed into the back of Max Verstappen.
Red Bull driver Verstappen managed to finish fifth, but Vettel dropped to 16th with the damage sustained in the incident.
Hamilton, already long odds-on for the drivers title, was cut to no bigger than 1-25 after his Silverstone success, his sixth at the track.
The action now switches to Hockenheim for the German Grand Prix on July 28.
