Sunday preview

Lille v Marseille

BT Sport 1, 8pm Sunday

Lille are serious contenders for a Champions League berth with France Football magazine's manager of the decade in the dugout and a spine comprising Jose Fonte, Gabriel, Boubakary Soumare, Benjamin Andre and Victor Osimhen.

It has not been plain sailing for Christophe Galtier's men this season but they are a force at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy, where they have lost only one of 16 league games since March 2019.

Goals have been difficult to come by - Osimhen has scored 12 of their 29 league strikes - but the January addition of Nicolas Gaitan should enhance an energetic attacking armoury.

Marseille's lack of killer instinct in the final third has cost them of late as they slumped to goalless draws with Angers and Bordeaux before defeat to Lyon in the cup and they are worth opposing.

Lazio v Inter Milan

Premier 1, 7.45pm Sunday

Inter Milan were the last club to inflict a league defeat on Lazio, who have strung together a club-record run of 18 unbeaten games in Serie A and can send shockwaves through Italy with a crucial win in the capital.

These two sides are part of a pulsating three-horse race with Juventus for the Scudetto and this game carries even more weight given head-to-heads could be used to separate them if they are level on points at the end of the campaign.

Lazio can boast nearly a clean bill of health, with captain Senad Lulic their notable absentee, while Inter could be a touch fatigued from their midweek Coppa Italia defeat to Napoli in which Romelu Lukaku played the full 90 minutes.

The Milan side are also still missing key goalkeeper Samir Handanovic and unconvincing deputy Daniele Padelli could struggle against deadly marksman Ciro Immobile, who is Serie A's top scorer with 25 goals.

Mainz v Schalke

BT Sport 3, 5pm Sunday

There are 14 points separating these sides in the Bundesliga but lowly Mainz have scored only one goal fewer than Schalke and they could operate on the front foot against their Gelsenkirchen counterparts.

Yet to draw a league game this term, Mainz claimed their first win of 2020 away to Hertha Berlin last time out with Robin Quaison's second hat-trick of the season helping them to a 3-1 win.

The Swedish forward can wreak havoc on the flank or as part of a front two with former Royal Blues player Adam Szalai and looks a value bet to add to his 11 Bundesliga goals by notching first against the permeable visitors.

Leganes v Real Betis

LaLiga TV, 1pm Sunday

Eyebrows should have been raised when relegation-threatened Leganes allowed key forward Youssef En-Nesyri to move to Sevilla in January and the shot-shy strugglers could learn a thing or two from opponents Real Betis.

The hosts have managed only four wins in 23 league assignments this season and are the division's lowest scorers with a paltry 18 goals.

Real Betis have nearly double that tally and are fresh from a 3-2 humdinger defeat to Barcelona. They lost Nabil Fekir to a red card in that game but still have plenty of players capable of ripping through Leganes, not least strikers Loren Moron and Borja Iglesias.
