Match preview

Malaga’s on-field problems are nothing compared to the mess they are in off it, and Zaragoza are strongly fancied to beat them at La Romareda.

Just a few months after Malaga were pipped by Deportivo La Coruna in the Segunda Division promotion playoffs, their world has pretty much caved in.

Dire finances have seen star players leave, notably Pau Torres and Javi Ontiveros, while ex-Leicester star Shinji Okazaki and three other summer captures have had to be let go because of wage-cap limitations.

They started the season with just nine registered players and incredibly won their opener 1-0 at Racing, but they are without a win in seven games since.

All eight of their matches have produced two or fewer goals, so the gloom isn’t being lifted on the field.

Very little of that will bother highflying Zaragoza, the only unbeaten side left in the section and pretty much faultless on home soil, where they have conceded just one goal.

Colombian striker Luis Suarez, on loan from Watford, has scored six in seven games, but the big noise in the Aragon capital this season is Shinji Kagawa, picked up for £3 million from Borussia Dortmund and pulling the strings in the number ten role.

With clean sheets in four of their seven games, take the hosts to win what may well be a low-scoring game.
