Match preview

With the Bundesliga title gone and Champions League football all but secured, Borussia Dortmund allowed complacency to slip in against Mainz in midweek. But they can bounce back with victory over RB Leipzig at the Red Bull Arena.

The 2-0 home loss to Mainz should act as a wake-up call for Dortmund, who have won nine of their last 11 assignments in the Bundesliga, their only other loss coming against Bayern Munich in Der Klassiker.

Leipzig also suffered a setback on Wednesday night, conceding twice in the 87th minute and in injury time to relinquish a 2-0 lead and draw 2-2 with Fortuna Dusseldorf but that is not the first time Julian Nagelsmann’s side have struggled to kill off a match.

Although they have goalscorers in their ranks in Chelsea-bound Timo Werner and star wide player Marcel Sabitzer, they have drawn eight of their last 13 matches, failing to see off Bayer Leverkusen, Freiburg, Hertha Berlin and Paderborn before the stalemate in midweek.

Dortmund look a good bet to consolidate their position as best of the rest with victory in Leipzig.
