Weekend preview

Bordeaux v Marseille

BT Sport 1, 8pm

Marseille manager Andre Villas-Boas said his team would not be able to qualify for the Champions League this season without Dimitri Payet so it's fortunate for the visitors that their midfield maestro returns from suspension to face Bordeaux.

Marseille were held to a 0-0 draw by Angers in their last Ligue 1 fixture but Bouna Sarr, Boubacar Kamara and Payet returned to the line-up for their cup tie with Strasbourg on Wednesday and fired them to victory.

Bordeaux are on a dreadful run of six defeats in eight games, a streak which started with a 3-1 loss to Marseille. The visitors, who have comfortably been Ligue 1's second-best team this season, look overpriced.

Udinese v Inter Milan

Premier 1, 7.45pm

With Inter Milan going off at seemingly generous prices every week, it seems bookmakers are anticipating a sharp downturn in their form but the visitors were busy in the January transfer window to ensure they do not take their foot off the pedal.

Serie A wins have dried up slightly but they have lost only one of their 21 league fixtures and the arrival of Christian Eriksen from Tottenham adds creativity behind one of the division's fiercest striking duos.

Romelu Lukaku (14) and Lautaro Martinez (11) have scored 25 league goals between them - six more than Udinese, who are languishing in the bottom half.

Sevilla v Alaves

La Liga TV, 5.30pm

Sevilla enhanced their attacking options in the transfer window with the additions of Leganes forward Youssef En-Nesyri and former Liverpool starlet Suso and they can edge a high-scoring affair with Alaves.

Julen Lopetegui tends to set his side up in a 4-3-3 system for home games, with two attacking midfielders either side of anchor Fernando in an effort to overload opposition boxes.

That has translated into 11 wins in 21 matches and they are in a prime position to land a Champions League berth.

But they have conceded in three of their last four competitive matches and could be caught out by the away side's reinvigorated forwards Joselu and Lucas Perez, who have 15 league goals between them.

Paderborn v Wolfsburg

BT Sport 1, 5pm

All is not lost for Bundesliga stragglers Paderborn, who can move out of the drop zone for the first time since August if they beat Wolfsburg and other results go their way.

They can take confidence from the scalps of Eintracht Frankfurt and Freiburg either side of the winter break and this is an excellent time for them to be playing Oliver Glasner's men.

The visitors will be without top-scorer Wout Weghorst and are winless in their last four league encounters after losing their first two games of 2020 to Cologne and Hertha Berlin. Paderborn have won only four games all season but backing them to avoid defeat looks a value selection.
