Weekend preview

Real Betis v Real Madrid

LaLigaTV, 8pm

Real Madrid's rearguard has looked impenetrable at times this season but Sergio Ramos and company could struggle to shut out a Real Betis side who have netted in 27 consecutive home league matches.

The Andalusians are hopeless at the back, shipping an eyewatering 42 league goals, and that points to a Madrid success, but punters should not anticipate a repeat of the goalless reverse fixture back in November.

That quirky fixture still featured 35 shots from the two teams combined and 13-goal Karim Benzema and midfield maestro Nabil Fekir can ensure fans get their money's worth at the Benito Villamarin.

Juventus v Inter Milan

Premier 1, 7.45pm

Pressure has intensified on both these title-chasing juggernauts in Serie A after Lazio went top with a 2-0 win against Bologna last time out.

This fixture was postponed last week due to coronavirus concerns, putting both sides on the back foot, and the game being played behind closed doors dilutes Juve's home advantage.

However the delay has given Samir Handanovic time to recover from a hairline fracture in his finger and his return coupled with Lautaro Martinez coming into the side after being rested against Ludogorets should give Inter hope of taking something from the game.

The reverse fixture in October was an even contest with the Old Lady prevailing 2-1 but behind closed doors the game in Turin could result in a stalemate.

Rennes v Montpellier

BT Sport 1, 4pm

Rennes supporters should have mixed emotions about their Coupe de France semi-final defeat to St-Etienne.

On one hand they are set for another season without silverware but on the other it means they can focus on securing a Champions League berth, starting with victory over travel-sick Montpellier.

While Rennes have won eight of their last 11 games at Roazhon Park in all competitions, the visitors have won only once in 13 away games in Ligue 1. Montpellier lost to nil in all three of February's road assignments to PSG, Monaco and Angers and are worth opposing.

Bayern Munich v Augsburg

BT Sport 3, 2.30pm

The battle of Bavaria has the potential to be a massacre as Bayern Munich have stepped it up a gear in pursuit of an eighth Bundesliga title.

A 6-0 walloping of Hoffenheim in the absence of Robert Lewandowski last time out highlighted Bayern's stellar squad depth and while Joshua Zirkzee and Philippe Coutinho are shouldering the goalscoring burden, the return of Alphonso Davies on the left is a massive plus.

The Canadian should run rings around Stephan Lichtsteiner, who is part of a defence which leaked 13 goals in five games in February.

Hansi Flick's men rarely need any added motivation to grind sides into the dirt but the club will also want to mark their 120th birthday with a memorable triumph.
