Weekend preview

Genoa v Udinese

Premier 1, 2pm Sunday

Thiago Motta's appointment as Genoa boss was met with cynicism but he has already shown glimpses of becoming a top manager in Serie A.

After all three of his substitutes scored in a 3-1 win over Brescia, his side came moments from securing a point at Juventus having played with ten men for more than half an hour, only for Cristiano Ronaldo to score the winner from the spot in added time.

They have goals in them in Goran Pandev and Christian Kouame and look value to overpower Udinese, whose defensive fragility has evaporated in recent outings.

First they were struggling for goals, having scored only five times in the league all season, and now they look weak at the back, losing 7-1 to Atalanta and 4-0 to Roma in their previous two fixtures.

Augsburg v Schalke

BT Sport ESPN, 5pm Sunday

Schalke shut out a Borussia Dortmund attack featuring Jadon Sancho, Marco Reus and Mario Gotze in last week's Revierderby but can go one better by taking maximum points away to Augsburg.

David Wagner's side have stuttered slightly since beating Leipzig 3-1 away from home but have key players Amine Harit and Weston McKennie fully fit for this trip and are fresh from beating Arminia Bielefeld in the German Cup.

Augsburg had no cup game in midweek but they could be fatigued after a string of tough games against Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Monchengladbach, Bayern Munich and Wolfsburg, claiming an average of just 32 per cent possession in those games.

With just one league win this term, they could once again be chasing the game against the Royal Blues.

AC Milan v Lazio

Premier 1, 7.45pm Sunday

Stefano Pioli recorded his first win as Milan boss against minnows Spal last time out but it was far from convincing and they could have their work cut out against improving Lazio.

The capital club did minimal business in this summer's transfer window - Denis Vavro and Manuel Lazzari were the most prominent new additions - but they have started the season as serious contenders for a Champions League berth.

They played their part in a pulsating 3-3 draw with Atalanta before edging Fiorentina 2-1 in Florence and thumping Torino 4-0 last time out.

Rumours linking Milan with a move for Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren highlight their problems at the back and those could be exposed by a free-scoring Lazio front line.

Granada v Real Sociedad

Premier 2, 8pm Sunday

Granada and Real Sociedad are part of the early La Liga chasing pack but their respective form has fluctuated and goals may be the way to go when they meet at Los Carmenes.

Diego Martinez's side are on a run of four successive home wins to nil but they should get more of an attacking response from the visiting Basque club than recent opponents Real Betis, Osasuna and Leganes.

Both teams have scored in four of Real Sociedad's last six encounters and striker Willian Jose is among the division's leading scorers with five strikes.

Bookmakers offered odds-against quotes for both teams to score in Granada's most recent game with Getafe, which finished 3-1, and that bet looks overpriced once again.
