Weekend preview

Atletico Madrid v Barcelona

Premier 1, 8pm Sunday

The La Liga title race is the most competitive it has been in years and two sides separated by three points lock horns in a blockbuster clash at the Wanda Metropolitano.

Barcelona booked their place in the Champions League last 16 with a 3-1 success over Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday as Lionel Messi scored on his 700th appearance and they are value to win four games in a row in all competitions.

Atletico Madrid are a shadow of their former selves and a lack of goals has been their key problem. They have registered eight fewer goals than their expected goals figure suggests they should have netted and Diego Simeone continues to chop and change between attacking combinations featuring Alvaro Morata, Diego Costa, Vitolo and Angel Correa.

They have struggled to recover from the loss of Antoine Griezmann and, with Barca's front three starting to fire on all cylinders, the visitors are worth backing with the insurance of draw no bet.

Wolfsburg v Werder Bremen

BT Sport 3, 5pm

Wolfsburg snapped their losing streak with an impressive 2-0 win away to Eintracht Frankfurt last time out, having played the second half with only ten men.

They are in the midst of a challenging run of fixtures but are on the cusp of the Champions League places and a home tie with strugglers Werder Bremen should represent a routine win.

Wout Weghorst is in fine goalscoring form and the Bundesliga's tallest player should fancy his chances of netting against a side who have conceded the most headed goals in the league.

Bremen are winless in their previous eight assignments and are worth opposing.

Lazio v Udinese

2pm

Lazio are in electrifying form in Serie A, winning their last five matches and having last lost a league fixture away to Inter Milan in September.

The capital club are reaping the rewards of keeping hold of manager Simone Inzaghi, who is getting the best out of the division's top scorer Ciro Immobile (15 goals).

The forward is ably supported by Joaquin Correa, who bagged a brace against Lecce in their last home league encounter, and Lazio have significantly more front line firepower than the struggling visitors.

Udinese have been on the end of hammerings to Atalanta (7-0) and Roma (4-0), lost to lowly Sampdoria recently and are yet to reach double figures in Serie A's scoring charts.

Rennes v St-Etienne

BT Sport ESPN, 4pm

St-Etienne have turned a corner under Claude Puel, winning four and drawing three of their seven matches since the former Leicester boss took charge.

One player in particular who has shone since Puel's arrival is left winger Denis Bouanga, who has scored four of his five league strikes in the new manager's reign.

He netted a brace in their last away match at Nantes and his pace and trickery on the flank could cause problems for a Rennes outfit without a clean sheet in their last eight league fixtures.
