Sunday preview

Marseille v Bordeaux

BT Sport 1, 8pm Sunday

There is a Portuguese-inspired revival going on at both Marseille and Bordeaux, who meet at Stade Velodrome.

OM, under ex-Spurs and Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas, have won five in a row culminating in Tuesday’s 2-0 win at Angers.

Bordeaux, being rejuvenated by Paulo Sousa, extended their own unbeaten run with a 6-0 drubbing of Nimes. Former Sunderland youngster Josh Maja bagged a hat-trick.

These are two massively-confident sides and the Girondins look seriously underrated. They have lost only one of their last seven away games and don’t look a flash in the pan at all.

Marseille’s goal difference of plus four from 16 games illustrates how tight most of their matches are and Bordeaux are well capable of avoiding defeat.

Union Berlin v Cologne

BT Sport ESPN, 7.30pm Sunday

Markus Gisdol is hoping to make it third time lucky as Cologne's new coach but faces more disappointment at Union Berlin.

Cologne, the lowest scorers in the Bundesliga, are without a win in six in all competitions. Gisdol has overseen a 4-1 thumping at Leipzig followed by a fortunate 1-1 draw at home to Augsburg.

That came at a cost with centre-back Rafael Czichos and skipper Jonas Hector picking up the cards which see them suspended for the trip to the capital.

And Union are going well. The promoted side have won five of their last seven in league and cup and were seriously impressive in beating leaders Monchengladbach 2-0. They had taken care of Dortmund earlier in the campaign as well and had precious little luck in last weekend’s narrow 2-1 loss at high-flying Schalke.

This is a league where clean sheets are rare and Urs Fischer’s men have kept three in their last six.

Lecce v Genoa

Premier Sports 1, 11.30am Sunday

Promoted Lecce’s wait for a first home win looks set to end on Sunday afternoon.

Having lost their first three Serie A encounters, Lecce have responded with a trio of draws in front of their own fans, the pick of which came against Juventus, a match which finished 1-1.

And last week’s 1-0 win at Fiorentina is further confirmation that Fabio Liverani’s men are heading in the right direction.

Now out of the bottom three they know they are still in for a long season, which is why coach Liverani made wholesale changes for Tuesday’s Coppa tie at SPAL which they lost 5-1.

Don’t read anything into that. Liverani’s focus is solely on this showdown with struggling Genoa, who are without an away win since January, putting rookie boss Thiago Motta under enormous pressure.
