Borussia Dortmund have a handy seven-point lead in the Bundesliga title race and their quest for a domestic double should continue with a home victory over Werder Bremen in the third round of the German Cup.

The Yellow-Blacks drew 1-1 at Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday but still extended their advantage over Bayern Munich, who lost 3-1 at Bayer Leverkusen.

It is a key stage of the season for Dortmund, who return to Champions League action next Wednesday with a round-of-16 first-leg clash away to Tottenham.

But they have a proud recent record in the German Cup, reaching the final four times in the last five seasons, and look solid odds-on favourites to see off Bremen.

Dortmund have won their last five Bundesliga fixtures, including a 2-1 success over Bremen in mid-December.

Bremen are unbeaten in three games since the winter break but conceded a late goal in a 1-1 at second-bottom Nuremberg on Saturday, ending a sequence of six straight defeats for the home side.

That result leaves them tenth, a comfortable 12 points clear of the relegation playoff place and ten points adrift of the top four.

Given their league placing it makes perfect sense for Bremen to target the cup but the draw has done them no favours.

Dortmund are unbeaten at Signal Iduna Park this season and have netted 37 goals in 11 domestic home fixtures, an average of 3.36 per game.

However, they have been far less impressive at the back – keeping one clean sheet in the last six games – and might struggle to keep Bremen at bay.

Bremen have netted in each of their 12 away games this season and that sequence may continue in a losing cause.
