Hard to trust Rangers on Road to Moscow

Group G
BT Sport 3, 5.55pm Thursday

Group G remains wide open with bottom side Spartak able to leapfrog leaders Rangers if they claim victory in Moscow.

That looks a tall order for the Russians. Spartak are in freefall following a bright start to 2018-19, winning just one of 11 league and European games since the start of September, with even that success a modest one-goal defeat of Russian top-flight debutants Yenisey.

Whether Rangers are good enough on their travels to exploit Spartak’s weaknesses is open to question, however.

Steven Gerrard’s men were far the better side in the reverse fixture at Ibrox but Gers’ 13 road trips this season have yielded just two league wins – at bottom-three pair Hamilton and St Mirren – as well as a 1-0 Europa League qualifying victory at Osijek and a League Cup success at Kilmarnock.
