Nine days of artistic gymnastics begins today with three divisions of men’s qualifying.

With the greatest male gymnast in the history of the sport – six-time individual all-around world champion Kohei Uchimura –spearheading the Japanese team the reigning team world champions are understandably favourites for Monday’s team final. But 4-5 is a bit short given they won by just 0.473 at Glasgow from Great Britain, with China a further 0.386 back in third.

Based on history China look a solid bet at 9-4, having won three of the last four golds and ten of the last 12 world championships, and they will no doubt give supporters a great run for their money.
