The gulf between the top four and the rest of the field at the Cricket World Cup was emphasised by Australia’s 48-run victory over Bangladesh at Trent Bridge.

Opener David Warner, an 11-4 favourite to top-score for his side, powered the Aussies to an imposing total of 381-5 against a Bangladesh side who had upset South Africa and the West Indies in this tournament.

The Tigers were out to 20-1, from a pre-match 9-2, at the start of their innings and the target proved beyond them despite a decent batting performance on a good pitch in Nottingham.

Mushfiqur Rahim, an 11-2 chance to top-score, continued his good form with a century but Warner’s innings took him to the top of the tournament runscoring chart, ahead of Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan and Australia skipper Aaron Finch.

The Aussies are 11-4 to win the World Cup and their victory, coupled with New Zealand’s win over South Africa on Wednesday, means the top four look well set to reach the semi-finals.

England are 15-8 favourites with India 9-4 and New Zealand 13-2. It is 80-1 bar the front four in the betting with 19 games remaining in the league stage.
