Why you should head to the Curragh to watch Europe's richest juvenile race

Europe's richest juvenile race, the Goffs Million, returns to the Curragh on Saturday for the first time since 2009 and the sponsors are going all out to ensure those in attendance are given a raceday experience like no other.

There has been much talk of late of how those watching at home on Racing TV are seeing and hearing more of the action than those actually in attendance on Irish tracks but Goffs and the Curragh want to change that this weekend.

Speaking about the initiative, Goffs chief executive Henry Beeby said: "We are selling the dream of racehorse ownership and we want to make the day as special as we can. We want to make it all about the horse."

"It's not a Classic day and it's not part of Irish Champions Weekend but we want the day to stand on its own two feet. We want to make sure it is not just another day of racing. Our aim is for those who come to the Curragh on Saturday to find out more than those watching at home.

"The coverage at home is obviously excellent but we want to get back to the raceday experience being more than what you can see at home. Our team has put a real focus on increasing information and content. We want the connections of all the horses to have a fabulous time, such a good time that they will come back and try and win again. We want to celebrate the elite racehorse."

There will be enhanced viewing on course with four of the jockeys involved in the Goffs Million wearing JockeyCams, while two MCs will be on duty on the day to provide information that is currently missing from the raceday experience, such as how horses are moving on the way down to the start and how the loading process is going.

An extensive preview will take place before racing, which will include bloodstock agents speaking about the selection process at the sales and trainers and jockeys chatting about some of the leading contenders on the day. There will be footage of the horses in action during the preview.

Syndicates have also been invited to showcase their shared ownership proposition, and will have representatives on the day in a central location where they can meet and greet interested parties. There will be a gourmet flavour to the day with the Curragh playing host to the culinary experience, A Taste of Kildare.

All racehorse owners in Ireland are being given complimentary admission and can bring a guest with them, they simply have to show their AIR card at the ticket collection unit outside the entrance. The same offer applies to Goffs shareholders.

All Irish Thoroughbred Breeders Association members are being offered a pair of complimentary tickets. A racecard is included and the first 50 members to redeem this offer will receive swing badges for entry to the Owners Lounge. All breeders with runners on the day who are ITBA members will get access to the Owners Lounge.

As Goffs Orby Yearling inspections will be under way from Saturday morning, there will be shuttle transport available to and from the Goffs complex to the Curragh from 11.30am until 4pm.

A total of 24 horses remain in contention for the Goffs Million, which has a winner's prize of €617,000, and the Ger Lyons-trained Hellsing has been installed as Paddy Power's 3-1 favourite, while stablemate Beauty Crescent is next best at 7-2 having won the Listed Blenheim Stakes at Fairyhouse on Monday. Course maiden winner Hiawatha is the sole entry for Aidan O'Brien and is available at 5-1.
