The Lowdown: Ffos Las gets the go-ahead as British Champions Day arrives
Today's news
- SUNNY MORNING: It is currently sunny and dry at Ascot ahead of Qipco British Champions Day, the going is unchanged following a dry night.
- GREEN LIGHT: Ffos Las passed a morning inspection this morning. Their seven-race card, which features the Welsh Champion Hurdle, goes ahead as planned.
- FRANKIE'S FEAR: Frankie Dettori has issued a concern about the draw for the Balmoral Handicap. He rides the well-fancied Lord North in the final race at Ascot but the pair are drawn in stall 20, with low numbers generally favourable.
- ARC HANGOVER: The Revenant and Magical are among the favourites on Champions Day having both run over Arc weekend. However, history suggests that horses have struggled to back up their form at Ascot due to the two-week turnaround between meetings. May they be vulnerable to fresher opposition?
- DOWN UNDER: The valuable Caulfield Cup was won by Japanese runner Mer De Glace meanwhile Yes Yes Yes took the Everest.
