How better to spend a Saturday afternoon than with a ten-mile hike – enjoy the sights, catch up with some familiar faces and possibly make a few quid as well?

No, this is not an advert for the Ramblers Association but a recommendation to stay glued to your TV screen between 2.50pm and 3.50pm for historic long-distance chases from Newcastle, Fairyhouse and Kempton that promise to be as compelling as ever.

The three races actually combine to make a precise total of ten miles two furlongs and 166 yards of drama, as an extra 154 yards – and another fence – has been added to the Vertem Eider Chase at Gosforth Park to improve safety at the start.
