Prescott aiming high again as filly who jumped out of plane heads to Newcastle

Eve Harrington, the filly who famously jumped out of a plane at Stansted as a yearling, bids to add another chapter to the story when she lines up in the 7f novice stakes (7.00) at Newcastle on Thursday night.

The Sir Mark Prescott-trained filly got out of the stall and on to the runway, suffering multiple cuts in the process.

As a result, the Newmarket handler was unable to sell Eve Harrington, and had been sending himself regular bills for training fees until she courageously got off the mark 18 days ago at Southwell, beating Barossa Red by a nose in a stirring finish.

That was only her second start, and there could be more to come from a filly who is now a highly saleable commodity as a broodmare prospect owing to the family’s success in the United States.

"Eve Harrington was a very brave winner the other day at Southwell," Prescott said. "It's hard to win these races under a penalty and she probably wants an extra furlong.

"We need her to win again if possible after what she went through in her early days and hopefully we can then sell her to America."

Eve Harrington faces six opponents at Newcastle, headed by the Richard Fahey-trained Orient Express, who finished third behind Blame Culture at Wolverhampton last time out.

New challenge for Crosse Fire on 93rd start

Crosse Fire, a ten-time winner from 92 starts, simply loves Southwell, the track where he has registered eight of those victories.

The seven-year-old has exclusively raced over sprint trips during his career, but steps up to 7f in the apprentice handicap (4.10) under Nicola Currie.

Crosse Fire usually finishes his races over six furlongs well, and it could prove an inspired move by trainer Scott Dixon.

A model of consistency since returning to his happiest hunting ground in December, Crosse Fire has twice finished runner-up this month in Class 4 sprint handicaps behind The Right Choice and Ornate.

He is also entered in a £20,000 handicap over 5f at Southwell on Sunday.
