The Two Year Old Trophy has a knack of unearthing juvenile sprinters to follow. Winter Power's sire Bungle Inthejungle scored in 2012, 2016 winner Prince Of Lir followed up in the Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot, 2017 scorer Cardsharp later bagged the Group 2 July Stakes and Summer Sands subsequently ran third in the 2019 Middle Park.

Strictly on Racing Post Ratings, Whistle And Flute is a worthy favourite. Following an impressive debut victory at Bath, Whistle And Flute recorded a 91 when second in a Royal Ascot trial conditions event and that figure would have been good enough to land five of the last nine runnings of this Beverley sprint.

Chipotle, who runs for the same connections, registered a 2lb lower RPR when winning that trial the previous season, although backing a short-price favourite in this contest is fraught with dangers. Favourites priced at 15-8, 5-4, 9-4, 7-4 and 2-1 have fallen short in five of the past six runnings and this race is better treated as education rather than a get-rich-quick scheme.

If there is a wager, perhaps Jm Jungle is worth siding with at the early prices. John Quinn thrives with juveniles and plundered the Trophy with his only representative over the last decade.

Jm Jungle, whose sire has previous in the race and dam also won here, has claims of following last season’s winner Tipperary Sunset.

The speedy juvenile scored with more authority than the short-head winning margin indicated at Hamilton this month. He was forced to switch after struggling to get a run a furlong and a half out and put the race to bed in good style when in the clear.

He was conceding 4lb to second Legend Of Xanadu, who boasted more experience and ran out a dominant five-and-a-half length winner on his next outing at Redcar.

What they say

John Quinn, trainer of Jm Jungle
He ran well first time and toughed it out very well at Hamilton. He's in very good form and has certainly got his chance.

Tom Clover, trainer of Rogue Spirit
He won on debut despite behaving pretty badly, he was very colty in the prelims and keen to post, got very warm and somehow managed to win despite all that. He's been gelded, we'll red-hood him to post, and his work has been good. It seemed like the obvious race for him and we'd hope there's more to come. We've a nice draw in two and he was an inexpensive purchase so it'd be a good prize to win.

Richard Fahey, trainer of The Ridler
He improved quite a bit for having a run and I thought he did it well the other day at Ripon. It's a warm race and I'm a little bit frustrated being drawn eight, but we can't do anything about that. He's improving and we'll find out how good he is, he's one of our stronger two-year-olds and the stiff five furlongs will suit him.

Eve Johnson Houghton, trainer of Whistle And Flute
We're very hopeful. He's run two very solid races and we've given him a bit of a longer break between his second and third runs. He's grown and strengthened and I'm really pleased with him.

Brian Ellison, trainer of Chattel Village
The trip and track are fine for him. I think he got beat by a very good two-year-old last time at Musselburgh. He's tough and hard and there's no reason why he shouldn't run well.

Robert Cowell, trainer of Corporate Raider
I've won this before and he's quite a big, scopey horse. He only really raced for the last furlong and a half on his debut at Catterick as he didn't get the message at all. This track will suit and as long as I'm not bringing him back too quickly I quite like him. He does have an engine, whether we see it fully tomorrow I don't know but he's one for the future.
