Is Dysart Dynamo the next Douvan or Vautour? Unbeaten novice faces acid test

Given that Vautour (2014), Douvan (2015) and Min (2016) all won this Grade 2, we are always on the lookout for the next star to emerge from it, and perhaps Dysart Dynamo fits the bill.

He is unbeaten in three starts and his 19-length winning debut over hurdles at Cork was very easy on the eye. He had to do his own donkey work up front there, but he settled better than he had done in bumpers and is generally a 14-1 shot to win the Supreme.

Willie Mullins already has Sir Gerhard for that, so Dysart Dynamo is much shorter for the Ballymore. He's 13-2 favourite with Betfair and Paddy Power and it is worth noting he won a Clonmel bumper on his debut over 2m2½f. If he makes it four from four here, the Westerner gelding will be an even warmer order for the Ballymore.

Stablemate Hawai Game could be anything. We have no idea how good he is, but we do know he must have a decent engine given he was able to do so much wrong at Naas last month and still win that maiden hurdle decisively.

Guily Billy is a fascinating contender too. Purchased for £310,000 by Cheveley Park after winning a Tinahely point for Donnchadh Doyle, he suffered a shock defeat at 1-3 on his first start for Henry de Bromhead at Clonmel, but made amends in no uncertain terms next time at Tramore. That 25-length romp earned him an RPR of 135, just 4lb shy of what Dysart Dynamo achieved at Cork.

Gringo D'Aubrelle is the only one with solid Graded form. He was third to Stage Star in the Challow at Newbury and his second to Blazing Khal in a Galway maiden hurdle from earlier in the season is not working out too badly at all.

He is likely to run to a level somewhere in the mid-130s but at least one of Dysart Dynamo, Hawai Game and Guily Billy will probably be able to surpass that level – and Dysart Dynamo is the most likely to do so.

Mullins: 'It's a step up in class but Dynamo could have the ability to do it'

Willie Mullins is well aware that Dysart Dynamo will have to improve again if he is to extend his unbeaten record and hand the champion trainer a record-extending eighth win in the race following Mikael D'Haguenet (2009), Gagewell Flyer (2011), Mozoltov (2013), Vautour (2014), Douvan (2015), Min (2016) and Getabird (2018).

Mullins said: "Dysart Dynamo was very impressive when winning at Cork and isn't afraid to make his own running. The form of the race is working out and he could possibly be another high-class son of Westerner.

"He should make a really good chaser in time with his size and scope. This is going to be a big step up in class but I think he could have the ability to do it."

The JP McManus-owned French recruit Hawai Game is also unbeaten and Mullins was impressed with what he saw at Naas.

He said: "Hawai Game put in a really good performance at Naas. He showed a lot of class on the day and was very green. That run should have educated him a lot.

"He might be second string on paper but on what he showed me at Naas it wouldn't surprise me if he upset the odds here. He appears to have a bit of class."

What they say

Gordon Elliott, trainer of Gringo D'Aubrelle
He's a nice novice and has been consistent all season. He travelled well for a long way in the Challow and should give another good account of himself.

Henry de Bromhead, trainer of Guily Billy
He possibly got bogged down in the ground the first day at Clonmel but I’m not sure really. There was no obvious reason and he came out and did the job well in Tramore next time, which was good to see. He’s won his maiden hurdle and now we step forward and see. We’ll learn more about him. He’s in good form and we’re hoping he’ll go and give a good account of himself.

John Ryan, trainer of Ferdia and The Little Yank
They will outrun their odds, I can guarantee that. The top horses have won maidens impressively but we have the experience. I'd be fancying Ferdia over The Little Yank.
